Make entry safe
Stay away from a flooded pump outlet or plugged-in equipment. Do not reach into a wet pit to test wiring.
If a sump pump stops during rain or thaw, the water source may continue feeding the pit while the basement floor is already wet.
Calls connect to an answering service provider. Share your street address and the water source to confirm availability and scope.
Tell the provider whether the pump has power, whether a backup pump exists, and whether the water appears to be clear seepage or has an odor or debris. The cleanup and the pump repair are separate tasks.

Report whether water is still rising and which surfaces are wet. Ask for a water-removal assessment while arranging pump diagnosis separately.
When the pit is working again, check the floor edge, carpet padding, and stored items for moisture that a surface mop cannot remove.
Extraction removes water and may lead into drying. Pump troubleshooting or replacement is a separate plumbing or pump-service job.
Do not enter an unsafe wet area. Tell the provider what happened and what you can see.
